Floral dresses, hmmm. I must admit, I personally have not always been the biggest fan. Maybe not the best way to start off this post, but its the truth. Even so, floral dresses are something that NEVER really goes out of style. Also, I must admit that they have evolved over the years.
Floral dresses are not the same dresses that you see Grandma wearing to church every Sunday nowadays. Floral dresses are A LOT more stylish and fashionable than ever these days. So NOW, I’m digging them more than I used to and I figured I would style some looks to help you style a floral dress if you feel like me.
Now, there are some things you need to keep in mind when wearing florals. Body types do play a factor in floral prints. For example, a round body type may want to shy away from really big patterns as it may appear to add volume to you that is not flattering to your figure.
On the flip side, a petite rectangle figure may want to wear a bigger bolder print floral print to add volume and balance to a look. Wearing a bigger pattern on a rectangle figure makes the eye move around a little and not look narrowly up and down which a rectangle figure may want to avoid.
If you want to learn more about your body type, I wrote a whole blog about it to help you not only figure out your body type but how to style it too here.
Can You Mix Floral Patterns?
Yes!!! But be careful how much you are mixing and how you mix it. This is another area where your body type comes into factor. For example, if you have the triangle (pear shape) body type, you would not want to wear a small pattern up top and then a bigger print on your bottom half as it would throw off the balance and pull focus in one direction more than likely.
There is such thing as overdoing it and that is for all body types. So I advise when playing with mixing patterns, do it carefully. If you throw a look together or just mix anything, it will look like it. That is not always a good thing.
At the end of the day, have fun in however you style a floral dress. It’s such a versatile pattern that it can be worn pretty much everywhere. That is depending on what the garment is. Don’t wear a floral moo-moo on a date with anybody EVER, I’m just saying lol!
Can Florals Be Worn Year-Round
Yes!! The beauty of wearing floral year around is that you can wear floral patterns on your layering garments, such as coats, hats, scarves, etc.. The colder months are not my favorite, so anything to add some flavor to the season works for me.
A perfect example of this is the Moncler 8 Richard Quinn Fall 2020 RTW collection. They have several floral coats for the Fall/Winter season. Here is some looks that stood out to me…
So as you can see floral can be worn in a very fun and unique way in the colder seasons as well. Some may think florals are Spring/Summer only, but these looks prove that theory wrong.
Now let’s get to the best part of this post, the outfits! I have styled 9 for your viewing pleasure to bounce some ideas off of. Here we go…
The color coordination in this look is PERFECTION if I must say so myself! This dress gives Versace meets Cynthia Rowley vibes in the 80s. This is the perfect look for a night on the town with BAE in the Spring/Summer!
This is how you wear florals and look sexy! This dress is perfect for any semi upscale event that requires you to dress to impress. Because the dress is all lace, I would save this one for a hot summer night event. You can also wear this on a date as well. Men like red ladies, this is factual information, I have done the research, lol!
Lady Of The Night
Now when I say lady of the night, I am not talmbout no hooker, I just mean you that chic of the night, the 1 chic, lol! I think this dress is soooo pretty and paired with the shoes and the earrings, this is a head to toe stunner! This would be cute for a cocktail party at night on a patio somewhere off of some water. I get Miami vibes with this look.
This combo is so bomb to me! The boots take this look from school teacher to a sexy lady! Also, I dabbled in some pattern mixing here as well, but not really. Animal print mixed with florals works especially in this case because of the color. I like this for a night out on the town with BAE or when your single and ready to mingle.
Doesn’t this look just scream sunshine! The perfect look to wear to that rooftop party in the summer! Or any patio or outdoor event would do! A dress like this is essential in the summer, so easy to wear and so stylish at the same time.
I love this look right here! I think the lace mixed with the retro pattern is fire! This is giving me Studio 54 vibes and I can’t take it! I wish I was able to go to Studio 54, but I digress. You can wear this out for date night or hanging with your girls for cocktails!
I know I talk about date night looks often or appear to style a lot of them, but looking cute on dates is important, lol! I mean you could wear this for a night out period, but for a date night this would knock his/her socks off! Don’t you think? Its cute, PERIOD!!!!
Girl, you look like a tall glass of Lemonade, lol! In this case, I mean that literally, lol! Now, I am not the biggest fan of fruits on garments, but in this case, it works! I would probably wear this if I was on a cruise or a yacht and going to a party on the boat. This is the perfect warm-weather vacation outfit to pack.
This looks like an 80s dance invite ready to happen! Still cute though! This actually would work for a wedding! The bride could never say you’re trying to show her up with your dress, right! This is fun and flirty!
This concludes all the floral dress looks I have styled! Hopefully you got some good ideas to apply to your own wardrobe or future purchases to add to your wardrobe! Just remember to have fun however you style your own floral look!
